Discovery
Huashanosaurus was described in 2025 by Mo and colleagues based on fossils found in 2002 and 2017 in southern China. The species name qini honors the discoverer, local teacher Jian Qin.1
Still debated
Scientists are not sure if the Wangmen Formation is entirely Early Jurassic or extends into the Middle Jurassic, which affects the exact age of Huashanosaurus.1
