Fun facts
Lamplughsaura lived about 200 to 193 million years ago, during the Early Jurassic period.5
Its skull was 27 cm (11 in) long, bigger than the skulls of Plateosaurus and Riojasaurus.1
The fossils were discovered in 1972 by Tharavati S. Kutty, but the dinosaur was not named until 2007.1
Lamplughsaura shared its home with another sauropodomorph called Pradhania, and may have been hunted by a dinosaur similar to Dilophosaurus.1
Scientists are not sure if Lamplughsaura was an early sauropod or a more primitive sauropodomorph.12
The bones of the skull were found scattered, which suggests the animal was not fully grown when it died.1
Its tail had special spines that got shorter toward the tip, making the tail end thin.1
