Lishulong's skull is the largest sauropodomorph skull from the Lufeng Formation, measuring 40 centimeters (16 inches) long.1

The neck bones of Lishulong are very long; the axis vertebra is 16.3 centimeters (6.4 inches) long, and the tenth cervical vertebra is 19.9 centimeters (7.8 inches) long.1

Lishulong was named in 2024 by Zhang and colleagues. The species name wangi honors Wang Zheng-Ju, a discoverer of Lufengpithecus.1
