Jaxartosaurus

Jaxartosaurus is known only from a skull roof and braincase, so scientists have limited information about its body.1

It had a helmet-like crest on its head, which was probably made of the premaxillae and nasals bones.2

Jaxartosaurus lived during the Late Cretaceous, about 94 to 84 million years ago.1

Its skull was wide and low, with large frontals that were isolated from the edge of the eye socket.2

The lower jaw of Jaxartosaurus had 34 to 35 rows of teeth, which helped it grind plants.2

Jaxartosaurus is one of the oldest known lambeosaurine hadrosaurs, helping scientists understand the early evolution of duck-billed dinosaurs.2
