Oblitosaurus is the largest ornithopod dinosaur known from the Late Jurassic of Europe.2
Its fossils were found at the same site as the giant sauropod Turiasaurus riodevensis and a turtle named Riodevemys.2
The name Oblitosaurus means 'forgotten lizard' because its bones were the last to be studied from the fossil site.1
It was named after Luis Buñuel, a famous Spanish film director who was born in the province of Teruel.2
Oblitosaurus had a special thumb claw (ungual pollex) on its hand, which is one of the fossils used to identify it.2
Scientists think Oblitosaurus might have made some of the large ornithopod footprints found in the Late Jurassic rocks of Spain.2

- Oblitosaurus was named in 2023 by Sergio Sánchez-Fenollosa and colleagues. The fossils were collected in 2005 and 2009 from the Barrihonda-El Humero site in Spain.2
