Tameryraptor
Tameryraptor was a huge meat-eating dinosaur that lived in what is now Egypt about 95 million years ago. It was as long as a school bus and had a horn on its nose. Its fossils were destroyed in World War II, but scientists used old photos to study it.12

עובדות כיפיות
Tameryraptor had symmetrical teeth and a prominent horn on its nose.2
Its fossils were destroyed in a bombing raid on Munich on July 21, 1944.2
Tameryraptor lived in a mangrove swamp with tidal flats and waterways.1
It shared its home with Spinosaurus, Bahariasaurus, and giant fish like Mawsonia.1
The name Tameryraptor comes from an ancient Egyptian name for Egypt, Ta-mery, meaning 'beloved land'.1
השאלות הנפוצות ביותר על Tameryraptor
?How big was Tameryraptor?
About 10 metres (33 feet) long, which is as long as a school bus. It was one of the largest land meat-eaters, similar in size to Tyrannosaurus rex.21
?Did Tameryraptor have feathers?
Nobody knows for sure. No fossil feathers were found, and its close relatives, the carcharodontosaurids, are usually shown with scales, but some dinosaurs had feathers.1
?What did Tameryraptor eat?
It ate other dinosaurs and animals. It lived alongside sauropods like Paralititan and Aegyptosaurus, and other meat-eaters like Spinosaurus.1
?When did Tameryraptor live?
It lived about 95 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous period (Cenomanian age).1
?Is Tameryraptor a dinosaur?
Yes, it is a dinosaur. It belongs to the carcharodontosaurid group of large meat-eating theropods.1
?Why did Tameryraptor have a horn?
Scientists think the horn on its nose might have been used for display, like to attract mates or scare rivals, but they are not certain.1
מנפץ מיתוסים
מיתוס: Tameryraptor is the same as Carcharodontosaurus.
האמת: Scientists originally thought it was Carcharodontosaurus, but new photos showed it was a different dinosaur with symmetrical teeth and a nasal horn.2

- The fossils were dug up in 1914 by Richard Markgraf in Egypt and sent to German paleontologist Ernst Stromer. Stromer described them in 1931. The bones were destroyed in 1944, but in 2025 Maximilian Kellermann and his team used old photos to name the new species Tameryraptor markgrafi.12
- עדיין שנוי במחלוקת
- Scientists are not sure how many other large predatory dinosaurs lived in the Bahariya Oasis, because most fossils from that area were destroyed.2
