Amazonsaurus is the only dinosaur that has been given a full scientific name from the Itapecuru Formation in Brazil.1
It lived during the Early Cretaceous period, about 125 to 100 million years ago.1
The fossils were found in rocks that were once a floodplain near a river delta.1
Amazonsaurus belonged to a group of sauropods called diplodocoids, which includes some of the longest dinosaurs ever.1

- Amazonsaurus was named in 2003 by Brazilian paleontologists Ismar de Souza Carvalho and Leonardo dos Santos Avilla, and Argentine paleontologist Leonardo Salgado. The fossils were found in the Itapecuru Formation in Maranhão, Brazil.12
