Similiyanornis was a bird that lived during the time of the dinosaurs. It had a long beak full of teeth and could probably fly. This little hunter lived near lakes and rivers in what is now China.3 2

Similiyanornis is known from a nearly complete skeleton with feathers preserved. This gives scientists a great look at what it looked like.1

It lived during the Early Cretaceous period, about 121 to 113 million years ago.3

Similiyanornis belongs to a group of birds called Yanornithidae. These birds are some of the earliest known birds that ate fish.2

Its name means 'similar to Yanornis' because it looks a lot like its relative Yanornis.1

The only known species is Similiyanornis brevipectus. The species name 'brevipectus' means 'short chest'.1
