Dongbeititan is the first named sauropod dinosaur from the Yixian Formation, part of the famous Jehol Group.12
Its bones were found in a valley between Libalang and Er Valleys, about 5 km northwest of the Sihetun Fossil Museum.1
The species name dongi honors Chinese paleontologist Dong Zhiming for his work on Chinese dinosaurs.1

- Dongbeititan was named in 2007 by Wang Xuri and colleagues based on a partial skeleton found in the Yixian Formation of Liaoning, China. The fossils were collected by the Dalian Natural History Museum.12
