Dineobellator had special features on its arm bones that gave it a stronger grip than other raptors, helping it hold onto struggling prey.2 1

Its tail bones allowed it to move its tail more flexibly near the base, which may have helped it turn quickly while chasing prey.2 1

Dineobellator lived alongside many other dinosaurs, including T. rex, and scientists think it filled a different hunting role than the giant predator.2 1

It is the first well-known raptor from the very end of the Cretaceous in the southern United States.2 1

Dineobellator belongs to a group of raptors called Velociraptorinae, which includes the famous Velociraptor.2 3

Its fossils were found in rocks that are about 66.5 million years old, very close to the time when all non-bird dinosaurs went extinct.2 1

About 1.1 metres (3.5 feet) tall at the hip and 1.8 to 2.1 metres (6 to 7 feet) long, similar in size to a large raptor like Deinonychus.4 5
