Hollanda

Hollanda is known only from its hind leg bones, so scientists have to guess what the rest of its body looked like.1

Its foot had a special toe arrangement called anisodactyl, with the first toe turned sideways, which helped it run and perch.1

Hollanda lived about 83 to 72 million years ago, during the Campanian age of the Late Cretaceous.4

Even though Hollanda was a fast runner on the ground, it evolved from ancestors that lived in trees.1

Hollanda is part of a group called Ornithuromorpha, which includes modern birds and their close relatives.4
