Infernodrakon
Infernodrakon was a flying reptile that soared over North America at the very end of the Age of Dinosaurs. It had a long, spear-like neck and probably hunted fish from the sky.31

විනෝද කරුණු
Infernodrakon was named in 2025, making it one of the newest pterosaurs discovered.3
Its species name, hastacollis, means 'spear-necked' because of its long, pointed neck bones.1
This pterosaur lived about 72 to 66 million years ago, during the Maastrichtian stage of the Cretaceous Period.3
Infernodrakon is a medium-sized azhdarchid pterosaur, a group that includes some of the largest flying animals ever.1
Scientists used a laser scanner to study its fossil neck bone in 3D, which helped them see it was a new species.1
Infernodrakon is more closely related to Arambourgiania, a giant pterosaur from Jordan, than to Quetzalcoatlus.1
Infernodrakon ගැන වැඩියෙන්ම අහන ප්‍රශ්න
?How big was Infernodrakon?
It was a medium-sized pterosaur with a wingspan of about 4.15 metres (13.6 feet), which is much smaller than Quetzalcoatlus lawsoni.21
?What did Infernodrakon eat?
It was a mesopredator that likely ate small animals like lizards, snakes, mammals, amphibians, and eggs. It probably hunted small prey on land.2
?Is Infernodrakon a dinosaur?
No, it is a pterosaur, a flying reptile that lived during the time of dinosaurs but is not a dinosaur itself.2
?When did Infernodrakon live?
It lived about 72 to 66 million years ago, during the Maastrichtian stage of the Late Cretaceous Period.2
?Where was Infernodrakon found?
Its only known fossil, a neck vertebra, was found in the Hell Creek Formation of Montana, USA.23
?Why is it called Infernodrakon?
The name means 'dragon from hell' because it was found in the Hell Creek Formation, and its species name 'hastacollis' means 'spear-necked'.2
