Sanxiasaurus was a small, plant-eating dinosaur that lived in what is now China about 170 million years ago. It is the oldest neornithischian dinosaur ever found in Asia. This little dinosaur probably ran on its two hind legs and used its beak to nibble on plants.1 3

Sanxiasaurus is the oldest neornithischian dinosaur known from Asia, living about 170 million years ago.1

Its fossils were discovered in 2016 by a field team from the Chongqing Bureau of Geological and Mineral Resource Exploration and Development.1

The only known skeleton includes 55 bones, such as vertebrae, arm bones, leg bones, and parts of the feet.1 3

Scientists think Sanxiasaurus was a ground-dwelling herbivore that walked on two legs.3
