Fakte argëtuese

Brachiosaurus had front legs that were longer than its back legs, which is unusual for sauropods. This gave it a sloping back like a giraffe.1

It could reach food up to 9 meters (30 feet) off the ground, higher than most other dinosaurs.1

Brachiosaurus had air sacs in its neck and body that made it lighter. These sacs were connected to its lungs.1

The first Brachiosaurus fossil was found in 1900 near Fruita, Colorado, USA. It was named by Elmer S. Riggs in 1903.1

Many pictures of Brachiosaurus are actually based on a different dinosaur called Giraffatitan, which lived in Africa.1

Brachiosaurus lived during the Late Jurassic period, about 155 to 145 million years ago.1

Scientists think Brachiosaurus ate about 200 to 400 kilograms (440 to 880 pounds) of plants every day.1

?How big was Brachiosaurus?

Brachiosaurus was about 18 to 22 metres (59 to 72 feet) long and weighed between 28.3 and 46.9 metric tons (31.2 to 51.7 short tons).1

?What did Brachiosaurus eat?

Brachiosaurus was a plant-eater that ate leaves from tall trees like conifers, ginkgos, and tree ferns. It swallowed its food whole without chewing.2 1

?When did Brachiosaurus live?

Brachiosaurus lived during the Late Jurassic period, about 155 to 145 million years ago.2 1

?Where was Brachiosaurus found?

Brachiosaurus fossils were found in North America, in Colorado, USA. The first one was discovered near Fruita, Colorado in 1900.2 1

?Was Brachiosaurus bigger than T. rex?

Yes, Brachiosaurus was much bigger than T. rex. It was about 18 to 22 meters long and weighed up to 46.9 metric tons, while T. rex was smaller.1

?Did Brachiosaurus have feathers?

No, Brachiosaurus did not have feathers. It was a sauropod dinosaur with scaly skin, like other large plant-eaters of its time.1

?How fast could Brachiosaurus run?

Probably only about 10 km/h (6 mph) at its fastest, a bit slower than a kid running fast. This is a Dino Wiki estimate from its size: Brachiosaurus was so big and heavy that it could not really run, it walked.1

?Why did Brachiosaurus have a long neck?

Brachiosaurus had a long neck to reach high into trees and eat leaves that other dinosaurs could not reach, up to 9 metres (30 feet) off the ground.2 1

?Is Brachiosaurus a dinosaur?

Yes, Brachiosaurus is a dinosaur. It is a type of sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period.2 1

?Could Brachiosaurus swim?

Scientists are not sure if Brachiosaurus could swim, but its large body and long neck would have made swimming difficult. It probably stayed on land.1

Shkatërruesi i miteve

Miti: Brachiosaurus could rear up on its hind legs like other sauropods.

E vërteta: Unlike many sauropods, Brachiosaurus was not built to rear up on its hind legs because of its long front legs and short tail.1
