Huallasaurus
Huallasaurus was a duck-billed dinosaur that lived in what is now Patagonia, Argentina. It had a long, flat snout like a duck and walked on two or four legs. This plant-eater was one of the most complete hadrosaurs ever found in South America.21

Huallasaurus was first thought to be a species of Kritosaurus, but scientists later gave it its own name in 2022.1
Its name comes from the Mapudungun word 'hualla' meaning duck, because of its duck-like beak.1
Huallasaurus lived about 72 to 66 million years ago, near the end of the Age of Dinosaurs.6
This dinosaur is known from both adult and subadult fossils, including skull and body bones.2
Huallasaurus belonged to a group of South American duck-billed dinosaurs called Austrokritosauria.1

- The first fossils were found in the Los Alamitos Formation of Argentina and named Kritosaurus australis by Bonaparte and colleagues in 1984. In 2022, Rozadilla and colleagues gave it the new genus name Huallasaurus.16
