Plesiolophus was a duck-billed dinosaur that lived about 77 million years ago in what is now Canada. It had a flat head without a big crest, unlike its later relative Parasaurolophus. This plant-eater walked on two legs or all fours and could probably run fast to escape predators.12

Plesiolophus is one of the oldest known members of the Parasaurolophini group, which includes the famous Parasaurolophus with its long curved crest.12

The fossil was found by Wendy Sloboda near Warner, Alberta, Canada, and was named by Bradley McFeeters and colleagues in 2026. The species name warnerensis honors the town of Warner.12
