Triunfosaurus
Triunfosaurus was a long-necked sauropod that munched on plants in what is now Brazil. It lived about 145 to 130 million years ago, during the Early Cretaceous. This dinosaur is one of the oldest titanosaurs ever found!32

Triunfosaurus is known from only a few bones: three tail vertebrae, a right hip bone (ischium), and some chevrons (bones under the tail).2
Its fossils were found in the Rio Piranhas Formation, which was deposited by ancient rivers and streams.2
Triunfosaurus lived at a time when the South Atlantic Ocean was just starting to open, separating South America from Africa.2
The species name leonardii honors Giuseppe Leonardi, a paleontologist who studied dinosaur footprints in northeastern Brazil.2
Before Triunfosaurus was found, most titanosaur fossils in Brazil came from the Late Cretaceous. This one is much older, from the Early Cretaceous.2
