Minimocursor is the first basal neornithischian dinosaur ever found in Southeast Asia.1

The holotype skeleton is more than 50% complete, which is rare for a small dinosaur.1

It lived alongside fish, turtles, a pterosaur, and other dinosaurs like a stegosaur and a meat-eating metriacanthosaurid.1

Its fossils come from rocks that are about 149 to 137 million years old, from the Late Jurassic to the earliest Cretaceous.2

The not-fully-grown holotype was about 0.6 metres (2.0 ft) long. Larger remains suggest a fully-grown adult could reach 2 metres (6.6 ft) long.1

Minimocursor was named in 2023 by Sita Manitkoon and colleagues. The holotype was dug up in 2012 at Phu Noi, Thailand, and took five years to prepare.1

Scientists are not sure exactly how big a fully grown Minimocursor was, because the best skeleton is from a young animal.1
