Baisesaurus
Baisesaurus was an ancient marine reptile that swam in the oceans long before dinosaurs ruled the land. It was a strong swimmer with long, compact forelimb bones, and it likely ate fish and other sea creatures.1

Dintlha tse di monate
Baisesaurus lived about 248 to 247 million years ago, during the Early Triassic period.2
Its name means 'Baise lizard' after the Baise region in China where its fossils were found.1
The only known fossil of Baisesaurus is a partial skeleton including ribs, vertebrae, and a limb bone.1
Baisesaurus was a basal ichthyosauromorph, meaning it was an early relative of later dolphin-like ichthyosaurs.1
Scientists think Baisesaurus was at least 3 meters (about 10 feet) long, similar in size to another early marine reptile called Utatsusaurus.1

Baisesaurus likely ate fish and other sea creatures, based on what related early ichthyosauromorphs ate.1
?When did Baisesaurus live?
Baisesaurus lived about 248 to 247 million years ago, during the Early Triassic period.1
