Leptorhynchos lived about 80 to 72 million years ago, during the Campanian stage of the Late Cretaceous.1
Its name means 'slender beak' in Greek, because its beak was narrow and pointed.1
Leptorhynchos was a caenagnathid, a group of theropod dinosaurs that are closely related to oviraptorosaurs.12
Only one species is widely accepted: Leptorhynchos gaddisi, named after the Gaddis family who owned the land where the first fossil was found.1
Leptorhynchos was small for a dinosaur, only about 1.75 metres (5.7 feet) long and weighing around 19 kilograms (42 pounds).1
Its fossils were found in the Aguja Formation in Texas, which was once a coastal marsh and floodplain.1
Leptorhynchos shared its home with many other dinosaurs, including horned dinosaurs like Agujaceratops and duck-billed dinosaurs.1

- Leptorhynchos was named in 2013 by Nick Longrich, Ken Barnes, Scott Clark, and Larry Millar based on fossils from the Aguja Formation in Texas.13
