Pellegrinisaurus
Pellegrinisaurus was a huge, long-necked dinosaur that lived in Argentina near the end of the Age of Dinosaurs. It was a titanosaur, a group of giant sauropods that were some of the biggest land animals ever. This gentle giant munched on plants and probably traveled in herds.12

Pellegrinisaurus had special tail bones that were flattened from top to bottom, which may have helped lock the tail and limit its movement.1
Its thigh bone had a very flat fourth trochanter (a bump where leg muscles attach), unlike many other sauropods.1
Scientists think Pellegrinisaurus was closely related to Alamosaurus, a titanosaur from North America.1
The only known fossil was found in 1975 but wasn't named until 1996 by paleontologist Leonardo Salgado.1
Pellegrinisaurus lived alongside other titanosaurs like Aeolosaurus and Rocasaurus in the same ancient environment.1
Its name honors Pellegrini Lake, where the fossil was discovered.1
