趣味知識

Dasosaurus is a somphospondylan sauropod, a group that includes some of the largest dinosaurs ever.1

Its closest relative is Garumbatitan, a dinosaur from Spain, which suggests that Dasosaurus's ancestors traveled from Europe to South America.3

The fossils were discovered by an archaeologist named Daniel Ribeiro da Silva in 2021.1

Dasosaurus lived during the Early Cretaceous period, about 119 to 113 million years ago.2

The name Dasosaurus means 'forest lizard', because it was found in the Amazon rainforest region of Brazil.1

Scientists studied the bones under a microscope and found a mix of growth patterns seen in both early and later sauropods.3
