Dystrophaeus was named by famous paleontologist Edward Drinker Cope in 1877, based on bones collected in 1859 by John S. Newberry.4 1

The only known fossils of Dystrophaeus include a partial arm bone, a shoulder blade, and a back bone, all from one individual.1
