酷東西

趣味知識

Equijubus is one of the earliest known duck-billed dinosaurs, or hadrosauroids.1 2

Its name means 'horse mane' in Latin, because it was found near Mazong Mountain, which means 'horse mane mountain' in Chinese.1

The only known fossil of Equijubus includes a complete skull and parts of the backbone and hips.1

Grass microfossils found on an Equijubus specimen are among the oldest known grass fossils, and may be the oldest evidence of a dinosaur eating grass.1

Equijubus lived about 113 to 110 million years ago, during the Early Cretaceous period.3

Unlike many later duck-billed dinosaurs, Equijubus lacked a bony ridge over its eyes called a palpebral bone.1

?How big was Equijubus?

Equijubus was about 7 metres (23 feet) long and weighed around 2.5 tonnes (about 5,500 pounds).1

?What did Equijubus eat?

Equijubus was an herbivore that ate plants. Grass microfossils found on a specimen suggest it may have eaten grass, making it one of the earliest known grass-eating dinosaurs.1

?When did Equijubus live?

類群: 有喙的草食恐龍
科 / 演化支: Hadrosauroidea3
分類: Ornithischia > Ornithopoda > Iguanodontia3

岩層: Zhonggou3
國家: 中國3
化石紀錄: The Paleobiology Database 收錄 1 筆3
發現: Equijubus was named in 2003 by You Hailu and colleagues. The only fossil was found in the summer of 2000 by a Chinese-American expedition in the Gobi Desert of northwest China.1 2
仍有爭議: Scientists are not sure if Equijubus was a true hadrosauroid or a more primitive iguanodont. Some studies place it as the earliest hadrosauroid, but others think it might be outside that group.1
