酷東西

趣味知識

Histriasaurus is named after Istria, the region in Croatia where its bones were discovered.1

Its fossils were found in limestone that was once a lake, now exposed on the seafloor.1

Histriasaurus is one of the oldest known rebbachisaurids, a group of long-necked dinosaurs that lived mainly in the Cretaceous.1

The only known specimen is a single neck vertebra, which scientists used to classify it as a primitive relative of Rebbachisaurus.1

Histriasaurus lived alongside other dinosaurs, including a camarasaurid and a titanosauriform, as well as a small shelled creature called Campanellula capuensis.1

Some scientists think Histriasaurus might be a dubious name, but most recent studies agree it is a valid genus.1

關於 Histriasaurus 最常被問的問題

?How big was Histriasaurus?

Nobody knows for sure because only a single neck vertebra has been found, so its full size cannot be estimated.1

?What did Histriasaurus eat?

It was a plant-eater, like all sauropods. It ate plants from the lakeside environment where it lived.1

?When did Histriasaurus live?

It lived during the Early Cretaceous period, about 135 to 125 million years ago.1

?Where was Histriasaurus found?

Its fossils were found on the seafloor off the coast of Bale, on the Istrian peninsula in Croatia.1

仍有爭議: Scientists are not sure if Histriasaurus is a rebbachisaurid or a more primitive sauropod, because only one neck vertebra has been found.1
