Cacibupteryx lived about 156 million years ago, during the Late Jurassic.1
Its name comes from the Taíno word 'Cacibu', meaning 'Lord of the Sky'.1
The only fossil found so far is a partial skull and part of a wing.1
The skull is 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) long and was preserved in three dimensions, not squashed flat.1
Cacibupteryx is one of the few Jurassic pterosaurs known from the Caribbean region.2
It belonged to the group Rhamphorhynchidae, which had long tails and teeth.1

- Cacibupteryx was named in 2004 by paleontologists Zulma Gasparini, Marta Fernández, and Marcelo de la Fuente. The fossil was found in western Cuba.12
