Kiyacursor

Say it: KEE-yah-KUR-sor
Name means: “Kiya River runner with long foot”1
Ate: MeatMeat-eating dinosEarly Cretaceous

Kiyacursor was a fast-running, meat-eating dinosaur that lived in what is now Siberia, Russia. It had long legs and feet like an ostrich, which helped it sprint after small prey.1

What did Kiyacursor eat?
Kiyacursor was a meat-eating dinosaur, so it likely chased after small prey like lizards or baby dinosaurs. Its speed helped it catch food.

Fun facts

1

Kiyacursor is the first ceratosaur dinosaur ever found from the Early Cretaceous of Asia.1

2

It lived about 40 million years later than any other ceratosaur known from Asia.1

3

Kiyacursor had an ostrich-like foot with a big third toe bone and a tiny second toe bone.1

4

Its hind legs were built for speed, and scientists think it was one of the fastest running meat-eating dinosaurs.1

5

Kiyacursor shared its home with many Jurassic-era survivors, like ancient salamanders, crocodile relatives, and mammal-like reptiles.1

6

The only known fossil of Kiyacursor is a partial skeleton that includes neck bones, shoulder bones, arm bones, and leg bones.1

you asked

Most asked questions about Kiyacursor

?How big was Kiyacursor?

Kiyacursor was about 2.5 metres (8.2 feet) long. The only known fossil was a young adult that was still growing, so adults might have been a bit larger.23

?Could Kiyacursor run fast?

Yes. Its long legs and ostrich-like feet with a big third toe and tiny second toe suggest it was a fast runner, likely one of the speediest meat-eating dinosaurs of its time.24

?What did Kiyacursor eat?

Kiyacursor was a meat-eating dinosaur, so it likely chased after small prey like lizards or baby dinosaurs. Its speed helped it catch food.2

?When did Kiyacursor live?

Kiyacursor lived during the Early Cretaceous, about 113 to 121 million years ago. It was the youngest ceratosaur known from Asia at that time.24
