Fun facts
Normanniasaurus is known from a partial skeleton, including vertebrae, hip bones, and leg bones.1
It lived about 113 to 107 million years ago, during the Early Cretaceous period.1
Its backbone had special joints that made it strong, and the tail bones were shaped like cups and balls.1
Normanniasaurus is a basal titanosaur, meaning it is an early member of the group that includes the largest land animals ever.1
The first bones were found by Pierre Gencey in July 1990.1
A tail bone found in the 1800s was later recognized as belonging to this species.1
