Fun facts
Yunmenglong's neck bones were very long and had deep hollows called pleurocoels, which helped make its neck light.2
Its thigh bone (femur) was about 1.92 metres (6.3 feet) long, showing it was a giant.1
Yunmenglong lived during the Early Cretaceous period, about 121 to 100 million years ago.3
It is part of a group of long-necked sauropods that includes Euhelopus, Qiaowanlong, and Erketu.2
The name Yunmenglong means 'Yunmeng dragon', named after the Yunmengshan area where its fossils were found.1
Scientists think Yunmenglong may have been closely related to other Asian long-necked dinosaurs, forming a unique group.2
