Erlikosaurus is known from a nearly complete skull, which is one of the most complete therizinosaur skulls ever found.1

Its feet had four toes, with the first toe attached to the ankle. Most theropods have a tiny first toe.1

The name Erlikosaurus comes from Erlik, the king of the dead in Turko-Mongolian mythology.2 1

It lived about 96 to 89 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous Period.1

Erlikosaurus was a small therizinosaur, about 3.4 metres long and roughly 150 to 250 kilograms.1

Like other therizinosaurs, it probably had feathers, based on fossils of its relatives Beipiaosaurus and Jianchangosaurus.1

The front of its upper and lower jaw had no teeth and was covered by a horny beak, used for biting off plants.2 1
