სახალისო ფაქტები

Lambeosaurus is named after paleontologist Lawrence M. Lambe, who first studied its fossils.1

It lived about 76 to 74 million years ago during the Campanian stage of the Late Cretaceous.1 2

Lambeosaurus had a hollow crest on its head that may have been used to make honking sounds or to attract mates.1

It could walk on two legs or on all fours, and its duck-like beak helped it strip leaves from plants.1 2

Fossils of Lambeosaurus have been found in the Dinosaur Park Formation in Alberta, Canada.1 4

Some scientists think Lambeosaurus lived alone or in small groups in forested areas, not in big herds like some other duck-bills.1

Lambeosaurus had a dental battery with hundreds of teeth that were constantly replaced, helping it grind tough plants.1

Lambeosaurus

?How big was Lambeosaurus?

Adult Lambeosaurus grew to about 7 to 7.7 metres (23 to 25 feet) long and weighed between 2.6 and 3.4 tonnes (2.9 to 3.7 short tons).1 2

?What did Lambeosaurus eat?

Lambeosaurus was an herbivore that ate plants like pine needles, leaves of flowering trees, twigs, and also fruits and seeds. Its hundreds of grinding teeth helped it chew tough vegetation.1 3

?Why did Lambeosaurus have a crest?

The hollow crest on its head was likely used as a resonating device to make honking sounds for communication. It may also have helped Lambeosaurus recognize its own species or attract mates.1 2

?How fast could Lambeosaurus run?

Lambeosaurus was a relatively fast dinosaur that walked and ran on two legs, and it could also go on all fours to forage. Exact speed is not known, but it was built for quick movement.3

?Could Lambeosaurus swim?

Early scientists thought hadrosaurs like Lambeosaurus could swim, but modern studies show they were land animals. They walked on two legs or all fours and lived in forested areas.1

?Where did Lambeosaurus live?

Lambeosaurus lived in what is now western North America, especially in Alberta, Canada, and also in Montana, USA, and Baja California, Mexico. Its fossils are found in the Dinosaur Park Formation.1 3

?When did Lambeosaurus go extinct?

Lambeosaurus lived during the Late Cretaceous period, about 76 to 74 million years ago. It died out along with all non-bird dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous, around 66 million years ago.1 2

?Is Lambeosaurus a dinosaur?

Yes, Lambeosaurus is a dinosaur. It is a type of duck-billed dinosaur called a hadrosaurid, and it belongs to the group Ornithischia.1 2

მითების მსხვრეველი

მითი: Some people think Lambeosaurus had a solid crest like a helmet.

სიმართლე: Its crest was actually hollow and connected to its nose, so it may have been used for making sounds or showing off.1
