Choconsaurus
Choconsaurus was a long-necked plant-eater that lived in what is now Argentina. It is one of the most complete titanosaur skeletons ever found from its time. This dinosaur helps scientists understand how titanosaurs evolved.1

Makambo ya kosepelisa
Choconsaurus is known from a nearly complete series of back bones (dorsal vertebrae) and other parts of the skeleton.1
It lived during the Late Cretaceous, about 100 million years ago, in the Huincul Formation.1
Choconsaurus is a non-eutitanosaur titanosaur, meaning it was an early relative of the giant titanosaurs like Argentinosaurus.1
It had a small notch on the top of the back part of its neck bones, which is a unique feature not seen in other sauropods.1
Its tail bones had a special ridge called a hyposphene, which helped lock the vertebrae together for extra strength.1

?What did Choconsaurus eat?
Choconsaurus was a herbivore, meaning it ate plants. It was a long-necked sauropod that likely fed on leaves and other vegetation.3
?When did Choconsaurus live?
Choconsaurus lived during the Early Cretaceous period, about 106 million years ago. Its fossils were found in the Huincul Formation in Argentina.3
?Where was Choconsaurus found?
Choconsaurus was found in Villa El Chocón in Neuquén province, Argentina. The first fossil was discovered by Viviana Moro before 1996.3
?How big was Choconsaurus?
Scientists have not given an exact size estimate for Choconsaurus. It was a sauropod, so it was likely large, but we don't know its exact length or weight.3
