Neuquensaurus
Neuquensaurus was a small, armored sauropod that stomped through Argentina about 83 to 74 million years ago. It had bony plates on its back like a suit of armor, which was rare for long-necked dinosaurs. Despite its size, it was one of the most completely known sauropods from Patagonia.21

Neuquensaurus had a femur (thigh bone) only 0.75 metres (2.5 feet) long, making it one of the smallest sauropods.2
It carried bony plates called osteoderms on its back for protection, which was unusual for sauropods.21
Its name comes from the Neuquén River in Argentina, where its fossils were first found.2
Scientists think Neuquensaurus was a close relative of Saltasaurus, another armored sauropod.1
It lived during the Late Cretaceous, about 83 to 74.5 million years ago.2
Some of its fossils include a well-preserved partial skeleton with two osteoderms still attached.2

Gusenya ibinyoma
Ibivugwa: Some people think Neuquensaurus was a giant like other sauropods.
Ukuri: It was actually quite small for a sauropod, only about 7 to 9 metres (23 to 30 feet) long and weighing 1.8 to 3.5 metric tons (2.0 to 3.9 short tons).2
