1

Vectidraco was discovered by a girl named Daisy Morris and her family on a beach in 2008.2

2

Its name means 'dragon from the Isle of Wight' because it was found there.1

3

Vectidraco is known only from a partial pelvis and some vertebrae, so scientists are still learning about it.2

4

It lived about 125 to 119 million years ago, during the Early Cretaceous period.3

5

Vectidraco was a small pterosaur, with a wingspan of only 75 centimetres (2.5 feet).12

6

It belonged to a group called azhdarchoids, which includes some of the largest flying animals ever.2

Dipotso tse botswang haholo ka Vectidraco

?Was Vectidraco a dinosaur?

No, Vectidraco was a pterosaur, a flying reptile that lived at the same time as dinosaurs but is not a dinosaur itself.14

?How big was Vectidraco?

Vectidraco was very small for a pterosaur, with a wingspan of about 75 centimetres (29.5 inches) and a total length of about 35 centimetres (13.8 inches) from snout to tail, similar in size to a large crow or a gull.154

?What did Vectidraco eat?

Scientists think Vectidraco was toothless and probably ate small animals or insects, like other azhdarchoid pterosaurs, but no one knows for sure because only its pelvis and some vertebrae have been found.15
