Blasisaurus was named in 2010 by Spanish paleontologists Penélope Cruzado-Caballero, Xabier Pereda-Suberbiola, and José Ignacio Ruiz-Omeñaca. The fossils were found at the Blasi 1 site in Arén, Huesca, Spain.41

Scientists are not sure exactly where Blasisaurus fits in the lambeosaurine family tree. Some think it belongs to the tribe Lambeosaurini, while others place it in Parasaurolophini.1
