Khetranisaurus was a titanosaur, a type of sauropod dinosaur with a very long neck and a small head.1

Its fossils were found in rocks that are about 72 to 66 million years old, from the very end of the Cretaceous Period.5

The name Khetranisaurus honors the Khetran tribe, a local tribe living in the Koh Sulaiman area of Pakistan.1

Khetranisaurus had a unique feature in its tail bones (caudals): the top of the bone was narrower than the bottom, which is different from many other titanosaurs.1

Only one species of Khetranisaurus is known, called Khetranisaurus barkhani.5 1

The first fossils of Khetranisaurus were reported in 2004 by scientist M. S. Malkani, but the dinosaur was formally described and named in 2021.5 1
