Mexidracon's hand bones (metacarpals) were longer than its foot bones, an extreme feature not seen in most dinosaurs.2 3

It belonged to a group called ornithomimids, which are often called 'ostrich dinosaurs' because they looked a bit like ostriches.2

Mexidracon lived during the Campanian age, about 83 to 72 million years ago.1

Its fossils were found in the Cerro del Pueblo Formation in Mexico, a place that also had other dinosaurs like deinocheirids.2 3

The only known specimen includes bones from the spine, arms, hips, and legs, but not the skull.2

Mexidracon had a special foot structure called arctometatarsalian, where one foot bone was pinched between the others, helping it run.2 3
