Taohelong is the first polacanthine ankylosaur ever found in Asia. Its closest relative is Polacanthus from England.1
Its armour included a special shield made of many different‑sized bony plates that were arranged in a messy, irregular pattern.1
Scientists know Taohelong from a set of back bones, ribs, a hip bone, and armour pieces. No skull has been found yet.4
The type specimen is stored at the Gansu Dinosaur Museum under the number GSDM 00021.4
Taohelong lived between about 126 and 113 million years ago, during the Barremian to Aptian ages of the Early Cretaceous.4

?How big was Taohelong?
Scientists do not know its exact size because only a few bones have been found, but it was probably about 4 to 5 metres long, similar to its relative Polacanthus.31
?What did Taohelong eat?
Taohelong ate plants. It was an armoured dinosaur that munched on low-growing vegetation.3
