Bagualosaurus
Bagualosaurus was an early long-necked dinosaur that lived about 230 million years ago in what is now Brazil. It was about the size of a small car and walked on two strong legs. This dinosaur was mostly a plant-eater, using its leaf-shaped teeth to munch on ferns and other greenery.1

Bagualosaurus was discovered in 2007 in a ravine near Agudo, Brazil, and its skeleton was removed in a single block of stone.1
The name Bagualosaurus comes from a local Brazilian word 'bagual', meaning a strong, sturdy fellow, because of its powerful hind legs.1
This dinosaur lived during the Carnian stage of the Late Triassic, about 230 million years ago, making it one of the earlier sauropodomorphs.1
Bagualosaurus was about 45% larger than other sauropodomorphs from the same time period, based on the length of its thigh bone.1
Its skull and teeth were similar to later long-necked dinosaurs like Plateosaurus, but its body shape was more primitive.1
The only known fossil of Bagualosaurus was found lying on its back with its hind legs pulled up, which is a rare position for dinosaur fossils.1
