Chromogisaurus

Chromogisaurus lived about 232 to 230 million years ago, during the Carnian stage of the Late Triassic.1

Its name means 'color earth lizard' because it was found in the 'Painted Valley' (Valle Pintado) in Argentina, which has colorful rocks.1

This dinosaur was a sauropodomorph, the group that later gave rise to giant long-necked sauropods like Brachiosaurus.1

The only known fossil of Chromogisaurus is a partial skeleton without a skull, including parts of the legs, hips, and two tail bones.1

Chromogisaurus was a small dinosaur, only about 2 meters (6.6 feet) long from nose to tail.1

It walked on two legs and was probably a fast runner, using its long tail for balance.1
