1

Nankangia lived at the same time and place as at least four other oviraptorosaurs, including Banji and Ganzhousaurus. They probably ate different foods so they did not compete too much.21

2

Its lower jaw did not turn downward like some other oviraptorosaurs. This may have given it a smaller mouth opening, better for nibbling soft plants.2

3

The only known fossil of Nankangia was found by a local farmer in 2010 and donated to the Ganzhou Museum of Natural History.1

4

Nankangia belonged to a group of dinosaurs called oviraptorosaurs, which were feathered and looked a bit like birds.2

5

Scientists think Nankangia was more plant-eating than meat-eating, unlike some of its relatives that may have eaten eggs or hard foods.2

?What did Nankangia eat?

Nankangia probably ate plants like leaves and seeds. Its lower jaw shape suggests it was more herbivorous than carnivorous.12

?When did Nankangia live?

Nankangia lived during the Maastrichtian stage of the Late Cretaceous, about 72 to 66 million years ago.1

?Was Nankangia a dinosaur?

Yes, Nankangia was a feathered theropod dinosaur, specifically an oviraptorosaur.12
