Archaeodontosaurus

名字的意思： “ancient-toothed lizard”1

吃：植物長脖子恐龍侏羅紀中期

Archaeodontosaurus was a long-necked plant-eater that lived on Madagascar during the Middle Jurassic. It had teeth that looked like those of earlier, more primitive dinosaurs, which makes it special among its giant relatives.1

趣味知識

Archaeodontosaurus is known only from a few teeth and some other bones, so scientists are still learning about it.1

Its teeth were shaped like those of prosauropods, an older group of dinosaurs, but its skeleton shows it was a true sauropod.1

It lived about 168 to 165 million years ago, during the Bathonian stage of the Jurassic.2

The only known species is named Archaeodontosaurus descouensi, after the collector Didier Descouens.1

Its fossils were found in the Isalo III Formation of Madagascar, which was once a coastal environment.1 5

Some scientists think it might be a very early member of the group Gravisauria, which includes many giant sauropods.1

關於 Archaeodontosaurus 最常被問的問題

?What did Archaeodontosaurus eat?

It was a plant-eater, like other sauropods. Its teeth suggest it may have eaten hard plant food, based on the wrinkles on its teeth.1 4

?How big was Archaeodontosaurus?

Nobody knows for sure, because only a few teeth and some bones have been found. Scientists are still learning about its size.1

?When did Archaeodontosaurus live?

It lived about 168 to 165 million years ago, during the Middle Jurassic period.1

?Where was Archaeodontosaurus found?

Its fossils were found in the Isalo III Formation of Madagascar, which was once a coastal environment.1
