Fun facts
Baurutitan was one of the first four sauropod dinosaurs ever described from Brazil.1
Its fossils were discovered in 1957 by paleontologist Llewellyn Ivor Price, but the dinosaur was not named until 2005.1
The name Baurutitan comes from the Bauru Group of rocks where it was found, plus 'titan' from Greek mythology.1
Scientists think Baurutitan might be the same animal as another dinosaur called Trigonosaurus.2
Baurutitan lived during the Maastrichtian age, about 72 to 66 million years ago.4
The only known fossils of Baurutitan are a series of tail bones and a hip bone.1

Most asked questions about Baurutitan
?How big was Baurutitan?
Baurutitan was about 12 to 14 metres (39 to 46 feet) long and around 3.5 metres (11 feet) tall. That is roughly as long as a large bus.1
?What did Baurutitan eat?
Baurutitan was a plant-eater, like all sauropods. It used its long neck to reach leaves high in trees.1
?When did Baurutitan live?
Baurutitan lived during the Maastrichtian age, about 72 to 66 million years ago, near the end of the Age of Dinosaurs. It lived in what is now Brazil.1
