Fun facts

1

Choyrodon had an open hole in its skull called an antorbital fenestra, which is a primitive feature, but it also had advanced features like a downturned jaw and a big nostril opening.3

2

The type specimen of Choyrodon was a subadult when it died, meaning it was not fully grown.3

3

Choyrodon lived in the same place and time as another plant-eating dinosaur called Altirhinus, but they were different species.3

4

Scientists think Choyrodon was closely related to a North American dinosaur called Eolambia.3

5

Choyrodon had a beak with a flattened bottom edge and a row of small holes along the side, which is unusual.3

6

The fossils of Choyrodon were found in rocks that are about 110 to 100 million years old, from the Albian age of the Early Cretaceous.2

Most asked questions about Choyrodon

?Did Choyrodon have feathers?

No, scientists think Choyrodon did not have feathers. It was an ornithopod dinosaur with scaly skin like a lizard.1

?How big was Choyrodon?

Choyrodon was a medium sized dinosaur. Based on the fossils, it was about 4 metres long, roughly the size of a small car.3

?What did Choyrodon eat?

Choyrodon was a herbivore, meaning it ate plants like ferns, cycads and leaves. It used its beak to chop off bits of plants and its many teeth to grind them up.15
