Inawentu
Inawentu was a big, long-necked plant-eater that lived in what is now Argentina. It had a wide, square snout like a duck's bill, which helped it munch on low-growing plants. Its neck was shorter than most of its relatives, but it could still move it in many directions.1

Fun facts
Inawentu's name means 'imitator' because its skull looks like that of a different group of dinosaurs called rebbachisaurids.1
Its neck had only 12 bones, fewer than any other known titanosaur. Most titanosaurs had 13 to 17 neck bones.1
The fossil includes a nearly complete skull and all the neck, back, and hip bones, making it one of the most complete titanosaurs ever found.1
Inawentu lived about 85 to 83 million years ago during the Santonian stage of the Late Cretaceous.2
Its jaw was shaped like a square and was very wide, which helped it eat lots of plants quickly.1
The first fossil of Inawentu was shown at a science meeting in Argentina in 2016, but it was officially named in 2024.1
