Liaoningvenator was named in 2017 from a nearly complete skeleton found in the Yixian Formation in China.1
It lived about 125 to 119 million years ago, during the Early Cretaceous period.5
This dinosaur was about 1 to 2 meters (3 to 6.5 feet) long, based on its complete skeleton.1
Liaoningvenator had a special feature: its tail vertebrae changed shape starting from the seventh tail bone, which is different from other troodontids.1
Scientists studied its bones and found that Liaoningvenator was at least four years old when it died and was almost fully grown.1
It is the fifth troodontid dinosaur discovered in the Early Cretaceous rocks of western Liaoning, China.1
