Fun facts
Planicoxa's name means 'flat hip' because its hip bone (ilium) had a flat, folded-over part that no other dinosaur had.1
The species name 'venenica' is Latin for 'poison', after the Poison Strip Sandstone where the fossils were found.1
Scientists found several partial skeletons of Planicoxa, including well-preserved hip bones, thigh bones, shin bones, and backbones.1

A second species once thought to belong to Planicoxa was later moved to its own genus, Osmakasaurus.1
