Fun facts
Shuangmiaosaurus is known from only a partial skull, including parts of the upper and lower jaws.1
The name Shuangmiaosaurus honors the village of Shuangmiao, where its fossils were found.1
This dinosaur was about 7.5 meters (25 feet) long and weighed around 2.5 tonnes (2.8 short tons).1
Shuangmiaosaurus had a special jaw joint where the maxilla and jugal bones met in a flat, butt-joint instead of a finger-in-recess connection.2
Some scientists think Shuangmiaosaurus was a basal hadrosauroid, closely related to the duck-billed dinosaurs, while others place it outside that group.1
