Yueosaurus
Yueosaurus was a small, plant-eating dinosaur that lived in what is now China. It walked on two legs and had a beak for snipping plants. This dinosaur is one of the southernmost ornithopods ever found in Asia.1

Yueosaurus is known from only one partial skeleton, which includes bones from the neck, back, tail, shoulder, hip, and limbs.1
It lived during the Cretaceous Period, between about 113 and 94 million years ago.2
Yueosaurus was a basal neornithischian, meaning it was an early relative of later plant-eating dinosaurs like Iguanodon.1
Its fossils were found in the Liangtoutang Formation in Tiantai County, Zhejiang.1
Scientists think Yueosaurus might belong to the Jeholosauridae family, a group of small ornithopods from Asia.1

- Yueosaurus was named in 2012 by Wenjie Zheng and colleagues. The name comes from 'Yue', an old name for Zhejiang, and 'tiantaiensis' for the Tiantai area where the fossil was found.1
- Still debated
- Scientists are not sure exactly which dinosaur group Yueosaurus belongs to. Some think it is a jeholosaurid, others place it in Thescelosauridae or Orodrominae.2
