Batyrosaurus is named after batyrs, which are Kazakh heroic knights.1
It lived during the Santonian to Campanian ages of the Late Cretaceous, about 85 to 72 million years ago.3
The shape of its inner ear semicircular canals suggests Batyrosaurus was an agile biped, meaning it could run on two legs.1
Its beak had a series of small, cone-shaped bumps along the top edge, which helped it grip plants.1
Batyrosaurus is a basal hadrosauroid, meaning it was an early relative of the duck-billed dinosaurs.1
The only known fossil of Batyrosaurus was found in greenish-gray shales with pink flecks, about 2 meters below purple shales.1
It was described in 2012 by paleontologist Pascal Godefroit and his team.3

?How big was Batyrosaurus?
About 5 to 6 metres (16 to 20 feet) long. That is roughly the length of a small school bus.5
?What did Batyrosaurus eat?
It was a herbivore, meaning it ate plants. It used its beak to snip leaves and twigs.56
?When did Batyrosaurus live?
It lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, about 85 to 72 million years ago.56
?Could Batyrosaurus run fast?

- Batyrosaurus was named in 2012 by Godefroit and colleagues based on a partial skeleton found at the Akkurgan locality in Kazakhstan.3

- Scientists are not sure if Batyrosaurus was fully bipedal or could also walk on all fours, because the postcranial skeleton is incomplete.1
